About us

We are Marc, Amy, Clement and Juliette; proud owners of Château de Rosières en Vivarais. Marc is French and grew up in Auvergne and Paris, while Amy is a Brit from Norfolk. We found each other on the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat in 2013, where Marc was running a hydroponic lettuce farm in the shadow of an active volcano and Amy was on holiday with her mother, pondering the wisdom of giving up a successful career in the Civil Service.

Château de Rosières is our haven of peace in the wilderness of Ardèche and we intend this to be our forever home and a place that we can welcome many people to in future.

With its 130 acre estate, several ruined houses, a 33 room chateau, a chapel and numerous barns, all in various states of disrepair, we have a mamouth task ahead of us, but we’ve already made great strides. In 2021 we were given a prestigious national award for our approach to the chateau’s restoration, and we’re striving to make bring the chateau and estate back to life in the most historically sensitive way possible.

Follow our Journey on YouTube!

You can now follow our progress on two YouTube channels The Chronicles of Chateau de Rosieres and The Lost Gardens of Chateau de Rosieres. Chronicles follows our award-winning restoration of the chateau and its buildings. It’s an authentic, uplifting, informative and entertaining portrait of what life is like with a young family and a monumental restoration project ahead of us. Lost Gardens follows our quest to recreate a historic chateau estate and make it self-sufficient, diverse, sustainable and beautiful. From formal gardens to rebuilding the historic waterworks, from vinyards to managing a huge forest, from growing our farm to uncovering ancient pathways, it’s an ambitious, captivating project that we want to share with you.

This video encapsulates the ethos of our restoration project in just 10 minutes – give it a try!

Staying with us

Château de Rosières is still undergoing major renovations so our biggest offerings are yet to come, but in future years we will be offering luxury Bed and Breakfast weekends, and yoga/wellbeing retreats. Sign up to our newsletter (at the bottom of this page) for updates.

Bed & Breakfast

The Grand Bedroom

Celebrating a special occasion? Looking for a place to pop the question? Or perhaps you just deserve a good, old-fashioned pampering. From 2024 our spectacular master bedroom will be available for a limited number of luxury Bed and Breakfast weekends.

Welcomed with a glass of something special and a roaring fire, you will be the only guests in the chateau, sleeping in a huge four-poster bed surrounded by 19th century wall panelling and hand-painted chinoiserie by one of the UK’s leading designers. A sumptuous breakfast will be served on both mornings, either in your room or in our grand dining room.

We can make reservations on your behalf at any of our exceptional local restaurants. One of these is the world-famous three Michelin-starred Freres Marcon. We can also offer extras such as hamper lunches or afternoon tea upon request.

Sign up to our newsletter on the contact page to be the first to hear when we release dates for these exlusive weekends. There will only be ten a year so make sure you’re in the loop for when they’re released!

Retreats

The yoga barn behind the main chateau

Château de Rosières is a peaceful sanctuary in the middle of 130 acres of forest, nestled in the wilderness of Ardeche in South-East France. It is the perfect place to host retreats and workshops of all kinds, and we will specialise in well-being and yoga breaks.

As a yoga teacher herself, Amy has practiced in many retreat centres and studios around the world. She has brought this experience to Rosieres, ensuring that every little detail of the centre is tailored towards making the retreat experience as comfortable, peaceful, healing and rejuvenating as possible.

We are currently renovating a huge, medieval barn to be used as a yoga studio or events space, and the Old Coach House is taking shape as an amazing dining room and cafe. We are also creating beautiful bedrooms within the chateau and two further historic buildings so that we can host up to 24 people at a time in a mixture of shared and single rooms.

The retreat centre is still under construction but we aim to open for retreats in 2024/5. If you are interested in attending a retreat here, or you are a teacher who would like to host a retreat at Rosieres, please get in touch early through our contact page so that we can keep you up to date with developments. Our very first retreat will be announced soon and more will be added as the year progresses.
