Please note: Due to changes in EU regulations, post from outside the EU is subject to more stringent customs controls in France and we are sometimes charged to receive packages. We are so grateful for the thoughtful things that people send us from around the world and we would just like to let you know that if you send something, particularly from the UK, it’s helpful if you label it clearly as a gift. Also when writing the content values we are not charged if the gift and postage values come to less than 45 euros. Finally it’s good to add our email address to the customs note on the package (chateaurosieres@gmail.com)
Getting here
Driving (from the UK):
We are roughly an 8 hour drive south of Calais, mostly on autoroutes. We usually find it necessary to have an overnight stop on the way back but if your journey from the UK is short then you can manage it in a day! Just after Lyon you turn off the autoroute and we’re about an hour into the hills of Ardèche.
Train:
Trains connect to Valence TGV station from all over Europe. Coming from the UK this connects easily to the Eurostar in either Paris or Lille. It is possible to hire a car at the station and drive one hour to Château de Rosières.
It’s also possible to take a train to Lyon and then change at Lyon Part Dieu station to join the regional TER train and get off at Tain l’Hermitage (50 minutes roughly). There are limited bus connections from Tournon (a short walk across the river) to our village and of course we can collect you from there! Before booking this route it’s important to ask us for more details because the bus services are complicated to say the least!
Flights:
You can fly into Paris and take the train direct from the airport to Valence TGV or Lyon as above. Or fly to Lyon, our closest airport, hire a car and drive 1.5-2hrs to the château. Marseilles is a bit further but also feasible. In winter there are also flights to Grenoble, which is less than 1.5hrs away.
If you fly to Lyon or Marseille then it should also be possible to take the regional train Tain l’Hermitage and take the bus as explained above. But bear in mind that airport transfer buses or trains may be necessary to get to the train station.
